Which Battery is Used in a Truck?
Trucks require the right type of battery, just as they are for any other vehicle. From which battery to use to what sizes to use, we’ve broken down the most crucial things to look for when searching for a truck battery in this guide.
Types of Truck Battery
Lead-Acid
Lead acid has a lead and acid composition. Wet-cell batteries are part of this category. Wet-cell batteries, commonly referred to as “flooded batteries,” are the most cost-effective choices available. There are two types of wet batteries to choose from; there is the accessible type where you need to remove the vent caps so as to check the electrolyte level and top up with water when required. The other type is the maintenance-free battery which is fully sealed and therefore requires no topping up of the electrolyte level.
Truck Battery Specifications And Features
Performance: A good truck battery is built to start larger vehicles more quickly and with enough power to support the cranking amps necessary.
Battery life: They built truck batteries to last on average, two to three years.
Shock resistance: A heavy-duty battery must be vibration-proof and capable of resisting high shock.
Truck Charging System: Truck batteries require the alternator to run at an optimum level so as to not overcharge or undercharge the batteries. The voltage should read between 13.5 – 14.5 volts when the vehicle is operating.
Charge Cycles: The manufacturer will mention the number of charge cycles the battery can withstand before it dies.
Voltage: Automotive batteries should have a voltage of 12.6 volts or higher when fully charged.
